Jury Team Candidate Agreement
Confirmation of my adherence to the principles of the Jury Team
- I agree not to support any policies discriminating on the basis of race, colour, gender, sexual orientation, disability or religious or other belief.
- I shall support all policies which lead to better governance of parliament and government. I shall adhere to the Nolan Principles of Public Life: Selflessness, Integrity, Objectivity, Accountability, Openness, Honesty and Leadership.
- I confirm that I agree that if I reach the short-list for my Region then it is incumbent on me to be able to prove my credentials and to demonstrate my eligibility for election. I accept that to do so may require that I present to representatives of the Jury Team evidence of my identification such as my passport or birth certificate, utility bills, driving licence (including counterpart) and other information relating to my education and career. I also agree to authorise the Jury Team to undertake an enhanced Criminal Records Bureau check on me. I agree that if the Jury Team, acting reasonably, are not content with and convinced by the information I shall provide to them to demonstrate the credentials shown on my application form above then I shall no longer be a valid candidate for the Jury Team.
- I acknowledge that the Jury Team will be assisting me in being elected as a Member of the European Parliament and in exchange for this assistance I hereby irrevocably agree that if elected to that Parliament:
- I shall undertake all of the necessary formalities to be properly accepted as a Member of the European Parliament within three months of being elected or shall forthwith resign my seat in Parliament.
- If the Jury Team, acting reasonably, determines that I have joined any other political party or similar grouping or that any of the information on this form is inaccurate or omits one or more significant factors about me then I shall forthwith resign my seat in Parliament.
- I confirm that I am eligible to stand as a candidate for the 2009 European Parliamentary elections, according to the criteria set out by the Electoral Commission, including that:
- I am 18 years old or over, or will be on May 7th 2009, and am a British citizen, or a qualifying citizen of a Commonwealth country, or a citizen of another member state of the European Union resident in the United Kingdom.
- I am not aware of any disqualifications which may prevent me from being able to stand, and no such disqualifications are known to the applicable authorities.
- I am not an MP, civil servant, member of the police force, a member of the armed forces, a government nominated director of a commercial company, a judge or member of any foreign legislature.
- I am not a peer who sits in the House of Lords by virtue of section 2 of the House of Lords Act 1999, i.e. who can vote in the House of Lords, or a bishop who is entitled to sit and vote in the House of Lords.
- I am not the subject of a bankruptcy restriction order in England or Wales, have not been adjudged bankrupt in Northern Ireland and have not had my estate sequestered in Scotland.
- I am not a convicted prisoner who is serving a prison sentence of more than 12 months (disqualification under Representation of the People Act 1981) and am not a person convicted of treason still undertaking my sentence.
- I have never been found guilty of corrupt or illegal practices in elections.
